White Plains (Westchester County, NY)
After moving from Manhattan, this young family wanted help growing into their big, new home in Westchester. We set the floorplan and furnished the 5-bedroom space with a cohesive, earth-toned palette to make the expansive house feel cozy and welcoming. We modernized by resurfacing the fireplace façade, installing roman shades and sleek, custom curtains throughout on traditional windows, and crowned the double height foyer with a sculptural, contemporary chandelier. The living room features a pair of custom wood & steel side tables that were designed and handmade by the homeowner’s sister and her partner. Original art and nature-inspired accessories also played a big role in starting to personalize the rooms. Designed in collaboration with Nest Interiors. -
Central Park West (New York, NY)
This “classic six” uptown apartment has great bones but the owner wanted to bring in a more feminine, global look conducive to relaxed entertaining. The foyer now welcomes guests with a playful, English botanical wallpaper paired with an ornate French console table and abstract artwork. In the living room, I added hand-crafted Moroccan mosaic tiles around the fireplace and rejuvenated her vintage American and Moorish chairs with updated fabrics. The custom made curtains, pillows, and lampshades add patterned, African flair against the modern sofas and rug. Because the client sometimes works from home, I incorporated a new workspace facing the windows to allow her to better enjoy the room and her view. And for casual entertaining, the flexible, six-piece coffee table allows for many configurations around the room and the desk can be shifted over for use as a buffet. -
West 70th Street (New York, NY)
With a penchant for all things Japanese and a very unique tri-plex brownstone near the Park, this successful bachelorette was looking to create a special, multi-functional home. In her recessed dining area, I designed tables and wall-mounted seating that all convert from traditional seating to Asian seating on the floor and everything was handmade by Japanese craftsmen without modern tools or nails. All the other rooms feature bespoke pieces like illuminated display shelves, decoupaged side tables, custom table lamps, and artwork hand-painted right on to the exposed brick walls. Custom pillows and cushions throughout add texture and were created using vintage Asian textiles and obis. With a busy schedule, the owner is glad that the media room was set up to function as both a guest bedroom and a flexible workspace for at-home meetings. -
East 78th Street (New York, NY)
As a newly engaged couple making their first home together, these clients wanted to blend their individual styles and maximize their space so they would love being at home alone or with friends. From contemporary upholstery and traditional carpets to exotic touches and vintage accessories, my goal was to create a lively and welcoming space that both could enjoy. Adjacent to the dining area and kitchen, the entryway features a vintage sideboard that does double duty as a cocktail bar and buffet during parties. To manage the wardrobes of two professionals, I installed a mirrored storage wall in the bedroom that both handles extra clothing and bounces needed light back into the room. The crowd-friendly color palette of caramels and shades of green is followed through down to the custom curtains and pillows that soften the look. -
Turtle Bay (New York, NY)
This bachelor had just purchased his first apartment and needed to start building a more mature look that better fit with this important phase of life. I suggested we start from scratch and brought in low maintenance, masculine furnishings that he and his friends could comfortably enjoy. He wanted to install an integrated media system so I worked to camouflage speakers and wires behind new crown molding and made the television the focal point of the living room for sports and movies. An eclectic collection of travel souvenirs were used to accessorize and add interest while custom curtains and pillows added some tailored softness. I also set him up with a stocked bar and kitchen, complete with glassware, plates and everything else you might need for seemingly effortless entertaining. -
Williamsburg (Brooklyn, NY)
Creating a colorful, Brooklyn space for a photographer and a designer couple who both work and entertain at home was the challenge in this rental, garden apartment. I worked with some furnishings they had and added to their bohemian style with creative ideas like upcycling his retired surfboard into a ceiling light fixture in the hallway and using an old champagne riddling rack as a conversation piece in the dining area. To hide a dated kitchen, I built an organic, uplit, windowbox screen from willow branches that would provide a focal point in the dining area after dark but would not block the available light during the day. The custom headboard was created to incorporate glass nightstand shelves and soft lighting from within, while allowing a sleek and super low profile in the room. Custom pillows and curtains were used to add more color and the latter temporarily replaces pesky closet folding doors in the office. -
Murray Hill (New York, NY)
This first home for a busy professional needed to be an edited and efficient environment that would be easy to maintain given the client’s full-time career and his budding songwriting pursuits. I streamlined his open living/dining area to include a sleek, contemporary sectional, an extendable glass top dining table, and striking chairs that would all feel light and unobtrusive. Minimalist, architectural furnishings like the asymmetrical bookcase, custom pendant light, and a metal-framed lounge chair on his wraparound balcony provide potent style points without clutter. I redirected the floor plan in the bedroom to create a more functional musical studio for his keyboard and equipment, complete with an inspirational view of the city.
