When you combine two apartments, you can create a special home with an open floor plan as its core. This young family wanted to update their central space and bedrooms, plus renovate the outdated 1930’s bathrooms. I used a subtle color scheme when updating some furnishings so one space flows to the next, redirected the floor plans in the bedrooms, and polished things off with custom accessories, new lighting and original artwork. The master bedroom now sports a custom bed with some handmade pillows and a handmade Italian glass mosaic-front dresser. The master bath's old, shallow tub was replaced with a claw foot soaking tub atop a heated floor, while the guest bath tub was modernized into a glass-doored shower lined with handmade tile. Special details like a marble vanity top, custom vanity cabinet, grasscloth wallpaper, and marble, shell & glass tiles make for bathrooms that ask you to linger. Stay tuned for photos of their third bathroom renovation coming soon. (Some by Matthew Simmons Photo)
